Mr Trump has previously called on putting in new requirements for federal employees. In March of last year, he called on passing laws that would make every employee who works under the executive branch fireable by the president.

“We will pass critical reforms making every executive branch employee fireable by the president of the United States,” he said at the time. “The deep state must and will be brought to heel. It’s already happening.”

Hahahah reminds of me of how xi jinping makes all public workers study his books and then tests them.

This is just not enforceable in the USA though, he is talking for publicity's sake.

That's unconstitutional, not that that ever stopped him. How much more evidence to MAGAs need that he's not fit?

@nirgal: Three problems:

He doesn't care.

His party doesn't care.

It only takes enough people in the right positions for Constitutionality to not matter.

The fact a former president of the US (and possible future president) is actually talking about the "deep state" like it is a real thing terrifies me.

There is enough terrible, real stuff out there to worry about; we don't need to conjure fake boogeymen out of the shadows, too.

Also, and perhaps the biggest point of all: where is this "small government" the GOP claims to champion? This is literally big government stuff.

They're not Republicans, they're fascists.

@mrbojangles25: We saw exactly how it could play out, how it was intended to play out, last cycle, and we've somehow convinced ourselves again that it can't happen here.

He already did it last time he was president, trying to purge anybody that had anything to do with climate science.

Why shouldn't federal employees have to pass a civics test? AOC wanted to have the government monitor the media and Sheila Jackson Lee thought that both the Constitution was 400 years old and we put a person on Mars.

It seems like it would be a highly subjective and political test, not a mere civics test.

“I will require every federal employee to pass a new civil service test, demonstrating an understanding our constutitional limited government,” he said.

Mr Trump said that the test would include command of due proceess rights, equal protection, free speech, religious liberty and Fourth Amendment to the Constitution’s protection against unreasonable search and seizure, which led him to mention the FBI searching his Mar-a-Lago estate in August for classified documents.

Not sure why anyone who is sane would be for this.

And the fact he's wanting to do it for fiction reason is also troubling,

“The deep state must and will be brought to heel. It’s already happening.”

MAGAts are pretty much explicitly pro facism at this point so shit like this only makes him more fit in their eyes.

Why is important to understand how the Honda Civic works to work as a federal employee is beyond me.

Trump should be the first to take it though. See if he is fit for working there.

He'd fail. One of the reasons he hid his grades from school.

@zaryia: I said CIVICS TEST.

But Trump didn't say or describe a typical Civics Test.

As I said before, what Trump himself described sounds substantially more subjective and political. Furthermore, his reasons for the test are steeped in fictional Q-Anon lunacy or pure personal reasons (Maralago FBI search). Hence outlets referring to it as a Political Test.

"the test will cover - Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable search and seizure."

“I know all about that at Mar-a-Lago, don’t I?” Trump posed, insinuating that criminal investigations into his potential illegal seizing of classified documents—no less any of the other inquiries he faces—are somehow unconstitutional.

No rational adjusted person would defend this.

Citation? All the time? I mostly post fact checks or peer reviewed studies (the far right's kryponite). I doubt you will even be able to show 10% of my posts are propaganda news much less "all the time".

Talk about opposite day.

Why shouldn't voters have to pass a literacy test?

The answer lies in history and applies to both questions.

@mattbbpl: I think there should be a test.

If someone asks "who fought, and who won, the US Civil War?", and someone answers "It was us vs the Nazis and we won", then you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

But simply knowing who won the Civil War is relevant to policy today, how? And this would qualify you to exercise good judgement about trolls running for POTUS today?

And again, we know that most maga supporters think the wrong side won the Civil War.

So actually, I think your question is also shit.

I am not surprised you'd be in support of reimplementing literacy tests as a voting requirement. This country has a long history of them for spurious reasons.

I will require every federal employee to pass a new civil service test, demonstrating an understanding our constutitional limited government,” he said.

This idiot didn’t even know what the nuclear triad was.

I highly doubt we’ve ever had a president who is as ignorant and intellectually incurious as Trump. He has no concept, and much worse, no care, to understand what he laughably demands of others.

It's nice that Trump consistently fails at every single thing he ever attempts, otherwise he'd have a real shot at being a powerful dictator.

What an obviously terrible policy that has had a long history and precedent of ending up badly.

Hey, on the topic of obviously bad ideas. Should we also expect our presidents to pass basic physics too while we are at it?

You know, considering he allegedly promoted nuking hurricanes.
